In the wake of the announcement of a Royal Commission into Australia’s aged care sector, ABC Radio National has been undertaking an ongoing investigation into the current state of the industry. As part of this investigation, the station’s breakfast program recently looked in detail at the benefits of Homeshare.

Reporter Zoe Ferguson spoke to Wendy Francis, manager of Community Care Services at Holdsworth (a member of HANZA!), and also met Joan, a 94-year-old householder who is currently living with Yve, her 52-year-old homesharer. Both Joan and Yve describe the Homeshare model as a “win-win”, and spoke eloquently and movingly of how living together has enriched their lives. Their story makes up part of a written feature on the ABC’s website about alternatives to residential care, and the interviews are featured as part of the RN Breakfast podcast, which you can listen to here.
