Here’s some excellent news: we’re delighted to announce that our very own Beris Campbell and Heather McKee were presented with awards at this year’s Victorian Community History Awards ceremony, held on Monday 14 October as part of History Week. The duo received awards for their book More Than Just Housing: The South Port Community Housing Group Story 1983-2018, which was co-written with Janet Goodwin and edited by Helen Penrose. The book was recognised in the Local History — Small Publication category.

More Than Just Housing catalogues the history of the South Port Community Housing Group, of which both Beris and Heather are founding members. It explores the role of community housing in preventing recurrent homelessness, community organisations and what makes them work, and the valuable, proactive roles municipal councils can play in addressing community needs. It is an independent publication of the South Port Community Housing Group, and is available for purchase from the Group’s website.
