This weekend’s issues of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Sunday Age both contained a lovely article by journalist Judith Ireland about homeshare, its benefits, and the calls from HANZA and The Australia Institute for surety of funding for homeshare programs under the NDIS.

The piece features interviews with homesharers Ricky Buchanan and Josh Van Dijk, and looks at how homeshare allows Buchanan — who suffers from myalgic encephalomyelitis and chronic fatigue syndrome — to benefit from both human contact and help around the house. “[Homeshare]”, she says, “just makes my life better in so many ways.”

There are also quotes from HANZA’s Beris Campbell and the Australia Institute’s Director of Research Rod Campbell, who talk about homeshare has struggled for funding over the years, and about how our recent submission to the Royal Commission on Aged Care Quality and Safety sets out recommendations on how to integrate homeshare into MyAgedCare and the NDIS.
